How to kill woodworms

STEP 1: Remove the current finish from the furniture.

Existing finishes must be removed because they will obstruct the appropriate penetration of woodworm icide into wood furniture. Modern water-based paint and varnish strippers are simple to use, but you should still use them in a well-ventilated location and wear gloves and eye protection.

Although it will probably take the longest, it is crucial to be thorough. After the furniture has been stripped, check for any holes with a vacuum. Frass may occasionally obstruct them, allowing woodworm pesticide to be absorbed and less effective.

STEP 2: Apply woodworm pesticide to the wood.

Woodworm infestations can be cured by rubbing a surface of the wood with a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water. They dislike it, but it does not kill them. Permethrin, however, which is often sold as a concentrate, kills woodworms at all stages of development. Because pesticides with a permethrin base can be harmful, you should carefully adhere to the safety guidelines. Apply it liberally to the surface of the furniture with a cloth or spray bottle after mixing it as directed.

Step 3: Fill up gaps and fix harmed parts.

Any visible damage can be fixed once the woodworm treatment has been absorbed and the furniture has dried. Furniture with minor pinholes can frequently be covered up with beeswax or other wood treatment chemicals.

We advise using wood putty rather than wood filler for larger areas because wood putty is plasticized. Although it takes a little longer to set, it is more flexible and robust, making it ideal for mending outdoor furniture.

STEP 4: Refinish the wood surface and provide protection.

A few coats of the paint or varnish of your choice not only improve the appearance of your furniture but also safeguard the wood. It acts as a strong barrier to prevent the spread of woodworm infection.
